What is a Forensic Nurse?
A forensic nurse is a nurse that provides specialized care for patients that are victims or perpetrators of trauma. Forensic nurses specialize in a variety of patient populations including a sexual assault nurse examiner (SANE), interpersonal violence, child and elder abuse, death investigation, corrections and in the aftermath of a disaster. Forensic nurses can practice in various settings, including the hospital, community anti-violence programs, the medical examiner’s office, corrections and psychiatric hospitals.

Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANE) are registered nurses who have specialized knowledge and skills to care for the patient who has experienced sexual assault.
